Must Own Albums
Although I post an individual “song of the day”, most of the time I am a member of a dying breed, an “album listener”. I am convinced the average non-album listener is missing half the good songs, and sometimes the best stuff of all.
I have decided I need to communicate my love for certain albums to the world. As the owner of albums by over 1000 artists, I will be happy to tell you which albums are deserving from my point of view. I will be adding a new one to the list each week along with some highlights to the album (usually in the form of my top 5 songs) within each.
To see them sorted in the order I have posted them click here for the “Album of the Week” chronology). I also have them listed alphbetically here.

How come Radiohead’s the Bends is not on this list? It’s so beautifull and melodic.
I fight with myself trying to decide which album is more amazing OK Computer or the Bends. A neverending conversation. Great stuff.
the whole album sequence of the Bends-OK Computer-Kid A-Amnesiac- stuff of legends
Cousin Walter,
My long answer… The Bends is definitely a contender for the list. The list is still a work in progress. For several of my most favorite bands, Radiohead included, I decided I would start by posting my favorite album first rather than several at once. The Bends is indeed an excellent album that I listened to religiously before OK Computer came out, but OK Computer really blew my mind, and remains my favorite. Those 4 albums you list… “The Bends-OK Computer-Kid A-Amnesiac” are indeed a legacy that I think Radiohead has had trouble living up to since. They have definitely left a mark on music though, with bands like Coldplay, Travis, Muse and Keane frequently cited as influenced by Radiohead. I think Experimental Rock also got a huge boost from Kid A and Amnesiac, so fear not. I will definitely have more to say about the greatness of Radiohead in the future. A never ending conversation indeed!
My short answer in case I started to babble… Wait a while and I am sure to add more Radiohead to the list! I’ve only got a few dozen albums on the list so far though and I have other bands I want to make sure are included first.
Definitely add the Bends. I could listen to that album a million times in a row. In fact, I could listen to that song “Black Star” a million times too. I love it. OK Computer really blew my mind too. I didn’t discover Radiohead or really get into them till later on though. For some reason whenever I heard Karma Police on the radio I made me really sad and as result I avoided buying it. wierd. However, sometime in college I downloaded a recording of MTV’s Live at the 10 spot with Radiohead. It was recorded in January 1997 so they were in the early process of promoting OK Computer(album came out December 1996 I believe- by the way do you know they recorded that album in a 16th century castle owned by actress Jane Seymour). Perfect recording of a incredible performance completely blew my mind. After that I was sold. If you are looking for Radiohead live recordings there seem to be quite a few floating around the internet. I was even able to find a live recording of the concert I went to. Good thing with Radiohead and recordings is despite not letting fans record live at shows, they do a whole lot of live Radio broadcasts on many stations around the world. So many of the recordings are of top quality. Check it out.
