While searching for songs that fall into my “Zombie Rock” genre, I came across Midnight Juggernauts. I’m not sure they quite fit that genre. Close but no cigar. The voice distortion and repetition are there but the dissonance is not quite there. The desire to eat brains is not quite there either. However I could see them totally rocking a dance floor. They do seem heavily influenced by Daft Punk too if I had to guess, and I do love Daft Punk. Go Australia for the rocking electropop scene!
Some dissonance and distorted lyrics… and a beat to boot. This song is totally what I am calling “Zombie Rock”. It has a certain ghostly quality at times too, so I think it fits in well with my Halloween lineup. Good for that kind of mindlessness we will all require as good zombie citizens. Please pass the brains now!
Oh also, Vitalic’s album “Flashmob” is not released until November 3rd so put some brains on ice and save them for the release date.
I’m a boy, so I’m not usually all hot and bothered by vampires, the way many ladies I know tend to be (e.g. the “Twilight” phenomenon where every woman nation apparently became brainwashed into thinking bad literature and film is “good” when you rub some vampires on it, G included). I have always liked this song though and thought it to poses that sexy imperilment that makes vampire myth so popular. The draw of danger and vulnerability makes vampires perfect for Halloween too.
I had to share this one because I love the video for this song. There are very few lyrics to the song, but the video really conveys a full story. It is an excellent analogy between being stuck in a bad relationship and being part of an insect collection. Either way you’re pinned.
When I first heard this song back in 2005 I became obsessed. The “chorus” is totally addictive. I was craving it this morning, perhaps due to the touch of autumn in the air, and I first heard it in autumn. I don’t know about everyone else, but I crave certain artists during certain seasons and frequently it is tied only to when I first heard them. Anyone else have that experience?
The Avalanches are/were so cool. They took thousands of samples off of vinyl records and created songs like this one. Brilliant! I love the parrot talking part too. And the video is too cool, fun and funny! I love the “playing of the horse” instrument.
Sadly their second album has yet to materialize (9 years later). However there have been some updates THIS MONTH (May 2009) on their site (http://www.theavalanches.com/) indicating they may be close to completion and getting the final copyrights for “clearing the samples”? We can only hope! *crosses fingers*
This song was stuck in my head as I awoke today. I must be dreaming a lot about the late 90s these days.
Before her albums in English came out, before the real hype took over, I heard Shakira’s album “¿Dónde Están los Ladrones?” while I was in Boston. I was kind of saddened by her subsequent English albums and the more manufactured sound. This album really impressed me though even though I know only a dozen or so Spanish words (I took French and German in school). If you’re a fan of Shakira and you don’t have this album because you listen to the English only songs, then you’re not really a fan.
This is far from my favorite Depeche Mode song, but this is the one stuck in my head all morning. Thus it gets to be the song of the day. Don’t get me wrong, I like this song, I just like songs off of “Violator” and “Songs of Faith and Devotion” a lot more.
I went out for a run, listening to other stuff but this song of the day was not on my MP3 player. By the end of the run I felt running home so I could listen to this. So New Order’s “Crystal” wins the “song of the day” prize. Until recently I had kind of forgotten about New Order. I listened incessantly in the early and mid 90s but then they kind of faded away for me. This song is awesome though and makes me think I have been missing out.
A bit of trivia… If you watch the video, note the bass drum says “The Killers”. Apparently the ‘fictitious’ band in the video is where “The Killers” got their name. (Hey it is on Wikipedia, so it must be true!)
